Leona Maguire, the World No 1 female amateur, continues to stamp her authority on the highly competitive USA college golf scene, writes Liam Kelly.
Maguire, a psychology, business and accounting student at Duke University in North Carolina, has won for the sixth time on the collegiate circuit, taking the LSU Tiger Classic title at the University Club in New Orleans.
The 22-year-old from Co Cavan registered scores of 67, 68, 71 to finish on ten under par and beat Duke team-mate Virginia Elena Carta by four shots.
It was no surprise that Duke won the team event, retaining their title.
Maguire's victory equals the Duke University record of individual wins held by Brittany Lang and Lindy Duncan, both of them now on the LPGA Tour.
Given that she has another year to go before completing her studies at Duke, Maguire can be fancied to set a new record for the University.
Her ambition is to join Lang and Duncan on the LPGA Tour eventually, but not before she earns her educational qualifications.
