Magic bagman or loudmouth?
Adam who? Steve Williams talks about 'his' big win at Firestone:
•"I've got to tell you, I've been a caddie for 33 years and that's the best week of my life. I'm never going to forget that week. The people here this week have been absolutely unbelievable and all the support from the people back in New Zealand, including my family, that's the greatest week of my life."
•"I caddie and I go racing. When I go to the race track, the only place I'm interested in finishing is first. When I go to the golf course, it's the only place I'm trying to finish. Obviously it's a very tough game and you can't always win, but I'm a very confident front-runner."
•"There were a lot of expectations today. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous. Obviously Adam was leading the tournament and there's a lot been said this week so it's an incredible feeling to back it up."
•"I always back myself, just like when I do when I go racing. I'm a great front-runner when I go racing and look like a good front-runner when I'm caddying. So I've great belief in myself but, honestly, that's the best week of my life. I've caddied 145 wins now and that's the best win I've ever had."
•"To be honest with you, I was absolutely shocked that I got the boot (from Tiger). I've caddied for the guy for 13 years. I was incredibly loyal to him and I got short-shifted. It's very disappointing."
•"When you start with a new player, the most important thing is when you get the first opportunity to have a win, you just try and show them you know what you're doing. It's easier said than done. I think it just validates what I told Adam and what we were trying to achieve. Getting the first win is very important. I think that takes a lot of pressure off going forward."
•"I've won 145 golf tournaments. Every single player I've caddied for, even the guys I've caddied on the odd weeks here and there, have won tournaments. I guess when I caddie for someone, it's kind of a reassurance thing (for them), that Steve knows what it takes to get it done."
•"I was straight up with Adam when I had the opportunity to go and work for him. I stressed to him, 'if you want me to come and caddie for you full-time, you've got to sit down and do some hard work and do some hard yards because that's what I expect'."
•"The last two years have been very difficult for myself and my family. I'm sort of a believer in destiny sometimes. I had no doubt in my mind this morning, Adam hit it so good on the range, I knew it was our day. He hit a great opening tee shot and away we went. I was adamant that destiny was playing a part today."
