Leona still in the mix despite rocky finish
Leona Maguire faltered over the homeward stretch at Royal Ashdown Forest in East Sussex yesterday but still remained very much in contention after the first round of the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship.
The 16-year-old coasted to the turn in a two-under-par 34, but she ran into trouble when recording an inward-half score of 41 and finished with a round of three-over-par 75, three off the leaders.
Sarah Cunningham of Ennis is on the same mark as Leona, with Leona's twin sister Lisa six-over. Charlene Reid of Royal Portrush finished seven-over, Victoria Bradshaw of Bangor ended the day 10-over, while Cork's Gillian O'Leary is 15-over.
