Jordan shock for McElroy
Reigning champion Patrick McCrudden and Dermot McElroy were two big-name casualties on day 3 of the North of Ireland Amateur Open at Royal Portrush.
The host club's McCrudden won the event 12 months ago, but was beaten 6&4 by Eddie McCormack of Galway in the last 32 yesterday after beating Ardee's Eugene Smith 3&2 in Round 1.
The tournament is also over for Ballymena teenager Dermot McElroy, who had led the 64 qualifiers from strokeplay after a brilliant 63 on Tuesday. He lost on the home green to Dungannon's Timothy Jordan.
The field will be reduced to just four players today ahead of the semi-finals and final tomorrow.
