Ireland aiming to break Senior Ladies duck

IRELAND go into the Senior Ladies Home Internationals at Tramore Golf Club seeking their first win in the event since it was established in 2003.

The Irish, captained by Roma English, will play Scotland today, Wales tomorrow and on Friday against holders England.

Pat Doran of Donabate, runner-up in the recent Senior Ladies British Amateur championship, Sheena McElroy (Grange), Helen Jones (Strabane) and Mairead McNamara (Woodbrook) return from last year's side which finished second.

Tramore has bounced back into the top echelon of Irish golf courses thanks to a €3.5m redevelopment by renowned course architect Jeff Howes.

The club has already hosted the Irish Youths championship and this week's international event is a further boost for Tramore.

The format for each match in the competition is three foursomes each morning followed by five singles in the afternoon.

Ireland -- Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna), Pat Doran (Donabate), Helen Jones (Strabane), Mairead MacNamara (Woodbrook), Sheena McElroy (Grange).
