In brief: Kilkea Castle in receivership

KILKEA Castle in Castledermot, Carlow, is the latest golf club to go into receivership.

There was no comment from the club or from the receivers, BDO, yesterday.

Members became aware that a receiver was being called in when they arrived for their weekly competition last Sunday week to find the clubhouse, bar and kitchen facilities were closed.

Reports suggest that golf will continue until December 31, but that has yet to be confirmed.

THE late Kitty MacCann, who died earlier this year, was remembered at a function at Tullamore GC when a number of the top trophies she won were presented to the club.

Included in the collection were the British Ladies' Amateur trophy she won in 1951, six medals she won representing Ireland on international teams and her two Irish Close trophies.

The presentation was made by her nephew Leonard Dolan, who also presented a commemorative trophy to the Irish Ladies Golfing Union for junior golf.

Tullamore GC will host the competition for this trophy next year.

THE Links Golf Society winter season begins on December 9 with the Lion Court Capital outing at County Louth.

It will continue with the Waterford Crystal event at Portmarnock Links on January 13 and concludes with the Esso (President's outing) at Royal Dublin on February 24.

The Links has raised over €9m for charities in the last 12 years.

LAYTOWN and Bettystown professional Bobby Browne reminds Boyle Links Alliance members that confirmed dates are: November 25 -- Concra Wood (timesheet at 041 9828793) and Laytown and Bettystown on December 14 (shotgun start).
