Husband and wife duo Dara and Rosemary Kennedy were the toast of Powerscourt recently after claiming wins in the May medals at the wonderful Co Wicklow course.

Dara has been cut to five after his win in the May Blues Medal, which is played from the blue and white medal tees while Rosemary is now down to 18 after winning the May Medal for ladies.

“We’ve both won one medal in Powerscourt before, but that was a number of years ago and we have been members of the club since 2016,” Dara reported. “Rosemary definitely has the edge and has won more competitions than I have.

“At our previous club, Tulfarris, I won one medal and Rosemary won the 2014 Captain’s Prize. I’d say we’re both reasonably competitive but it would be hard to pick between us. It depends on the day.

“We have never won in the same week before, so this is definitely a first for us.”

Winning a medal is difficult in the best of circumstances but Dara and Rosemary went the extra mile during what was a big family weekend for them.

“What was funny was that I played the competition on the early morning of my niece Sorcha’s wedding on the 12 May and Rosemary played the day after it,” Dara explained.

“A big day/night out, so we had no expectations of doing as well as we did.”
