History of Tullamore
A history of Tullamore Golf Club, founded in 1896, will be launched at the club on Sunday.
Profiles of Tullamore's most famous members -- the late Kitty MacCann, British Open champion in 1951, and Denis White, East of Ireland champion in 1976 -- are included, with accounts of many other successes over the years.
A special invitation to the function has been extended to John Kelly, the club professional from 1950 to 1994. Members, former members and friends of the club are invited to attend.
Although women were members of the club from the beginning, a Ladies Branch was not formed until 1912 and this centenary will be celebrated next year.
- Niall Worth (The Island), playing off a five handicap, won the RaboDirect Hilary outing at Royal Dublin last Sunday. His nett 72 was one shot better than Royal Dublin duo Gerry O'Dwyer and Liam Hutchinson.
