GRAEME McDOWELL confessed missing the cut at the Open "was very painful" until a visit to Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin gave him an entirely new perspective.

"When you go to a place like Crumlin Hospital, talk to the people there, see the work they do and see families in the position they are in, you realise that a rough day on the golf course is nothing by comparison," said McDowell, who has selected the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast, Crumlin and The Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando as beneficiaries of his new charitable foundation.
