'Fertiliser needed' but Lowry tache RAISES €2,400
SHANE LOWRY didn't threaten the leaders at the Turkish Open but was delighted to drum up €2,400 for his Movember fund-raising drive.
The Clara man donated €100 each for the 19 birdies he had over four days at the Montgomerie Maxx and €500 for Sunday's splendid eagle three at the fourth.
Though tied-44th, Lowry obviously ironed out long-game glitches that bugged him over the first 36 holes to post impressive rounds of 65 and 67 at the weekend. It augurs well for Thursday's $8m DP World Tour Championship in Dubai and Lowry's bid for World Cup glory with Graeme McDowell at Royal Melbourne next week.
Impressively, Lowry tied eighth on his only previous appearance in Europe's season-ending showpiece in 2011 – though he qualified last year, the 26-year-old spent the week in hospital in Dubai with shingles and dehydration.
Lowry is not altogether happy with the progress of his moustache, saying on Twitter "bit of fertiliser needed!" and he's even got his Srixon ball in on the act.
