Faldo urges Poulter to take Ryder mindset into Major tournaments
Ian Poulter begins his season in Hawaii today with Nick Faldo urging him to throw off the 'matchplay-specialist' tag and translate his Ryder Cup form into the individual arena.
Faldo believes Poulter could be on the brink of replicating his Medinah heroics for his own cause in the Majors. Poulter won four matches out of four in his team's win in Chicago last year.
"I think that would have proved to Poults that he really can do it when he's not wearing the blue and gold," Faldo said. "It's funny, but everyone says that matchplay and strokeplay are radically different, but if you look at history the same players have been good at both.
"Poults must now believe that if he gets into contention on the Sunday afternoon he will be the favourite, considering his bottle and his putting."
Poulter will fancy himself to start 2013 with a bang, especially as this limited field does not include Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods or Luke Donald.
