Enniscrone a popular choice for top award
THE opulence of the new Ritz-Carlton Hotel at Powerscourt, Co Wicklow provided a perfect setting for the 11th annual Ireland Golf Tour Operators Awards Dinner on Monday night.
The black-tie gala event was attended by over 250 influential members of the Golf Industry, with visitors from England, USA and Scotland included.
Central to the function was the presentation to the golf clubs and accommodations which excelled in their field over the past year.
Marty Carr, Chairman of the IGTOA stated that "the reason that Ireland is such a premier golfing destination is because the service visitors receive, from golf to accommodation to transport, is of the highest calibre."
Hotel of the Year was won by Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa. Vaughan Lodge, Lahinch received the Small Hotel/Guesthouse of the Year honour.
Enniscrone Golf Club was an extremely popular winner of the Golf Course of the Year.
James Laidler received the prestigious Secretary/
Manager of the Year Award, a fitting tribute for his work in keeping Royal County Down in the top echelons of Irish Golf.
The Jerry Donworth Award for Outstanding Contribution to Irish Golf was awarded posthumously to Dr Joe Carr.
Finally, a new award for Resort of the Year was introduced, with The Lodge at Doonbeg Golf Club winning.
The awards were preceded on Sunday by a networking event where 120 industry partners met with the 15 member firms of the IGTOA.
Kyra Donworth from JD Golf Tours said that the workshops were well received: "These events provide excellent networking opportunities bringing together golf tour operators in Ireland with golf clubs, accommodation venues, transport providers and other ancillary services to the golf travel industry under one roof."
On Monday morning over 130 golfers took part in a fourball team event which was held on the impressive West and East Courses at Powerscourt Golf Club.
