Dun Laoghaire targeting double
DONABATE Golf Club is at the centre of women's golf this week for the ILGU Interclub Championships, which start tomorrow and end on Sunday.
This is the equivalent of the men's Cups and Shields, and six major trophies are at stake across all handicap levels.
The events are: Senior foursomes (handicap plus-14, max combined 24); Junior Foursomes (handicap 15-30, max combined 52); Junior Cup (handicap 8-15, singles match play); Minor Cup (handicap 23-29, singles match play); and Challenge Cup (handicap 30-36, singles match play).
The 2009 winners were Douglas (Senior Foursomes), Edenmore (Junior Foursomes and Intermediate Cup), Dublin City (Junior Cup), Blessington Lakes (Minor Cup) and Castletroy (Challenge Cup).
Dun Laoghaire have two teams in action, one in the Junior Cup and one in the Challenge Cup.
Of last year's winning clubs, only Dublin City are back, and this time it's in the Junior Foursomes, and not the Junior Cup they won in 2009.
North Dublin hosts Donabate will be disappointed not to get a team through to the business end of the Interclub Championships, but at least past lady captain Pat Doran kept the club flag flying high when she finished runner-up in the British Senior Ladies Championship last week.
