Druids Glen beckons for award winners
Congratulations to Billy Grealish of Galway Golf Club, and Beaverstown's Sheila Dunne, who are the winners of the Irish Independent-Druids Glen 'Golfer of the Month' awards for March.
Billy receives his award after overcoming severe physical problems to come back and win a competition at his home club when at one stage it looked like he would never play again.
In July 2013, and again in November last year, Billy had serious back surgery. Two rods and eight screws were inserted in his lower back,
Billy, however, was determined to get back on the fairways. He set up a gym in his garage and through the winter he did all he was asked to by his medical team.
Finally, Billy got back playing and marked his comeback by winning Galway GC's weekly seniors nine-hole competition on March 12 with 22 points playing off 19.
Sheila Dunne, a mother of four golfing sons and wife to a golfing husband, resisted the call of golf until she reached her mid-50s when she began began playing off 36. She is now 66, and is as keen a golfer as any member of the Dunne family.
On March 18, she won the Beaverstown St Patrick's Cup with a great score of 42 points off a 20 handicap.
Well done to Billy and Sheila. They each win an overnight stay for four at Druids Glen Golf Resort, to include a fourball on both the championship Druids Glen and Druids Heath courses.
