Dawson aims to lead Euro charge

Robin Dawson will be aiming to put his Amateur Championship final disappointment behind him as he goes for glory at the European Amateur Championship which gets under way at Royal Hague in the Netherlands this morning.

Despite ultimately missing out on the trophy to South African Jovan Rebula, that run to the final at Royal Aberdeen last week has seen the Flogas Irish Amateur Open champion break into the top 10 of the world amateur golf rankings.

The Tramore man leads the Irish charge this week with Portmarnock's Conor Purcell who will also be looking to build on an excellent display in the north-east of Scotland.

charge Castle's Alex Gleeson, Rowan Lester of Hermitage, Naas man Jonathan Yates, Kilkenny's Mark Power and Masssereene's Tiarnan McLarnon are also on the start sheet.

Meanwhile, Annabel Wilson leads the Irish charge for the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship heading into today's second round of stroke play qualifying at Hillside in Southport after a two-over round of 74. Olivia Mehaffey has work to do today after shooting 78.

Elsewhere, French raider Theo Boulet and Lisburn's Joshua Robinson fired four-under-par 67s to set the pace after the opening round of the Irish Boys Amateur Open at Belvoir Park.
