Crowds on the up
THE attendance figures are climbing day by day, and it's just as well that G-Mac and Wee Mac climbed their way up the leaderboard to give the punters a star focus for the weekend.
Thursday, traditionally the weakest day for attendance figures, showed a small increase on last year but yesterday a crowd of 20,215 arrived to enjoy the golf.
That compared favourably to the 2010 Friday tally of 17,396.
Despite the disappointment of Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley hitting the road way too early for anyone's liking, the nine Irish left in the tournament will keep the home fires burning as far as the Killarney galleries are concerned.
