THE 2011 Allianz-Irish Independent Executive Trophy campaign begins on Monday at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.
A total of 22 teams, each comprising captain, lady captain and an honorary officer, will challenge for the right to be among the top 20 clubs who will qualify for the final on Thursday, September 1.
This is the 16th season of this unique invitation event, which, over the years, has involved in excess of 5,000 club officers and remains hugely popular.
Brendan Murphy, chief executive of Allianz Ireland, is looking forward to the season with enthusiasm.
"Throughout our involvement with this event we have been delighted with the enthusiasm, the craic and the excellent golf produced by the club officers," he said.
"We recognise the commitment and effort which golf club officers and members bring to the task of leading clubs through these difficult times and our joint sponsorship with the Irish Independent is one way of recognising their efforts. To our five host clubs for the qualifying rounds and to The K Club, which is a magnificent venue for the final, we say 'thank you' and we look forward to our visits to them all."
The qualifying venues are (four teams from each venue to go forward to the final): Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links (April 11), Malone Golf Club in Belfast (May 26), Cork GC (June 28); Mount Juliet (July 19), Glasson (August 3) and the final at The K Club (Sept 1).
Last year's event was won by Nenagh (captain Jim O'Sullivan, lady captain Mary Ryan, hon sec Sean Minogue).
