Peter Lawrie truly feels like he's gone back to school. Asked to describe the experience of attending European Tour Final Qualifying for the first time in 13 years, Lawrie said: "It really is like going back to your old school and sitting at the desk you sat at for many years."
After 12 unbroken years on Tour since winning the 2003 'Rookie of the Year Award', a spell in which he won ¤5.6m, Lawrie 'enrols' at Girona's PGA Catalunya Resort today with fellow Irishmen Gareth Maybin, Michael McGeady, Kevin Phelan and Simon Thornton.
After an ill-fated swing change, Lawrie (40) made just eight of 42 cuts since his top-10 at the 2013 Irish Open. But memories of his third place at the 2009 Spanish Open here boost his hopes or making the top 25 and ties who graduate with cards after Thursday's sixth round.
