Claret jug in the wars

Darren Clarke has had some repair work carried out on the famed Claret Jug after it was dropped by supporters celebrating his British Open victory.

"I've not managed to drop it, but a few others have, so I've had to have it straightened," he said. "I won't say where, but it's happened a few times."

Clarke will again team up with manager 'Chubby' Chandler for the Dunhill Links, while Graeme McDowell, will be partnered by his brother Gary.

Padraig Harrington, twice a winner of the event, is again partnered by JP McManus, whose wife Noreen is partnering Damien McGrane.

Other Irish competing for the €588,148 first prize are Paul McGinley, Peter Lawrie, Michael Hoey, Shane Lowry and Gareth Maybin.
