AS expected, the Irish Open appears on its new slot, June 28 to July 1 in the 2012 European Tour schedule, which was published yesterday, though the venue has yet to be officially confirmed.
The name of the host course should be filled within days. The Montgomerie at Carton House is almost certain to pip Killeen Castle in the race to facilitate the Irish Open's return to the greater Dublin area after two highly successful years in Killarney.
The schedule features 46 counting events towards the 2012 Race to Dubai, but more will be added. The gap from October 25-28 is likely to be filled by the Shanghai Masters at Lake Malaren. Rory McIlroy landed the $2m first prize in this year's event, which was unsanctioned by any tour. With the Ryder Cup on September 28-30 in Chicago, special emphasis is on the final qualifying event for Jose Maria Olazabal's European team -- the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles (August 23-26).
The highlights of the European Tour season are the US Masters (April 5-8); the BMW PGA at Wentworth (May 24-27); the US Open at The Olympic Club, San Francisco (June 14-17); The Open at Lytham (July 19-22); the US PGA (August 9-12) and the season-ending DP World Championship in Dubai (Nov 22-25).
