Boys fly flag for Irish with rout of Scots
Ireland have beaten Scotland 3.5-1.5 in the European Boys' Team Championship over the Murcar Links to maintain their hopes of finishing a highly creditable fifth.
They will face Denmark today and are on course to occupy the highest position of any Irish side in this week's Euro Championships.
Alec Myles and Sean Flanagan led the way with a last-green foursomes success over Ewen Ferguson and Ewan Walker, and with Robin Dawson and Paul McBride getting points, the Irish were home and dried.
But in the men's event at Silkeborg in Denmark, the Irish were thrashed 4.5-0.5 by the host nation. Only Waterford Castle's Kevin Phelan was credited with half a point.
Germany beat Ireland in the women's and girls' championship at Fulford in York and Linkoping in Sweden respectively.
It was 4-1 to Germany in the girls', with only Mary Doyle and Laura Doherty in the foursomes securing a point, while the women lost 4.5-0.5.
England and Scotland meet today in the Amateur Championship final, while Austria face Spain in the women's contest; France clash with Norway in the boys' and with Sweden in the girls'.
