Bell's clanger

TIGER WOODS and his stand-in caddie Byron Bell can't have read the day's course notes very closely.

Woods walked all the way up the steep hill from the 11th green to the elevated back tee at 12, his third hole, only to discover it wasn't being used in round one.

As he made a quick about-face and headed 19 yards down the slope to the tee in play, a voice in the gallery mumbled: "Stevie Williams wouldn't have let that happen."

Ironically, Tiger had said on Wednesday that his friend, Bell, a businessman who does not caddie on Tour, had said: "There was no way in hell" he'd take on the steep climb up to the 12th tee with a bag on his back. Yet Padraig Harrington's bagman Ronan Flood skipped up the hill.
