Six amateurs have been handed the chance to battle for four precious spots alongside Rory McIlroy and a host of world stars in the $7 million Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Ballyliffin from July 5-8.

Hilton Templepatrick's Reece Black, Newlands' Jake Whelan, Warrenpoint's Jamie Fletcher, Naas' Robert Brazill, Douglas' Peter O'Keeffe and Mallow's James Sugrue have been nominated by the GUI to tee it up in the inaugural, €40,000 Dubai Duty Irish Open Qualifier at Rosapenna on June 30 and July 1.

They form part of a 130-strong field that will battle it out over 36 holes at the Donegal resort, taking on the likes of PGA in Ireland stars Michael McGeady, Colm Moriarty, Simon Thornton, David Higgins, Damian Mooney and Tim Rice.

Challenge Tour regulars Cormac Sharvin and Ruaidhri McGee and European Tour invitees Colin Crowley, Brian Casey, Stuart Grehan, Conor O'Rourke, Jack Hume, JR Galbraith, David Carey, Rory McNamara, Kevin Phelan and Chris Selfridge will also be in action at the Pat Ruddy-designed Sandy Hills Links where a sudden-death play-off will be used in the event of ties.

The six nominated amateurs are the top players available as Ireland's top six will be travelling to European Amateur Team Championships in Berlin when the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open takes place.
