Amateurs fall

THE GUI amateur interest in the tournament is reduced to only one after Alan Dunbar, Kevin Phelan and Dermot McElroy missed the cut.

Phelan finished on three-over-par, Dunbar carded a five-over total, and McElroy closed on seven-over.

They have plenty of competitive amateur golf to play over the next eight weeks, with Dunbar and Phelan in contention for a place on the Walker Cup team to play the USA at Royal Aberdeen on September 10-11.

Dunbar (21) won't let the Walker Cup affect his decision on turning professional, whether he makes the team or not. "I've got to weigh it all up and look at all aspects so I won't be rushing into anything," he said.
