TALKING of senior golfers, what about the Super Seniors, aka the Firth brothers of Sutton golf club?
Denis Firth, aged 80, shot an 81 gross off a 24 handicap in a recent club competition for a 57 nett, losing four shots as a result. He's a brother of former Leinster inter-pro Teddy, who, like Denis, is still a regular participant in weekly competitions.
Teddy, who was on Sutton teams alongside the late, great JB Carr, winning Irish Senior Cup honours, won the March Medal at the club and in the May Medal he shot 73 gross -- three shots better than his age.
He also won the Connor Cup, partnered by Aidan Williams, and played Barton Cup for Sutton this year. Now playing off a 14 handicap, Teddy said: "If I could pitch like the old days I reckon I could play off a lower handicap."
