€11m golf champ Rory McIlroy soars in Sports Rich List by €4.9m in a year

GOLFING ace Rory McIlroy has earned a place on The Sunday Times Sports Rich List 2012.

The 23 year-old who is worth £11m (€13.53) came in at number 12 on the list following an increase in fortunes of some £4m (€4.9m) since 2011.

The list of 12 golfers is topped by Nick Faldo who is said to be worth £34m (€41.8m).

Northern Ireland’s other golfing stars, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell also made it onto the list with Darren coming in at sixth place despite losing £6m (€7.3m) over the past year.

Darren is worth £15m (€18.4m).

Graeme McDowell took 11th place with a fortune of £12m (€14.7m) – an increase of £2m (€2.46m) since last year.

The Sunday Times Sports Rich List will feature in this weekend’s edition. It also lists the highest earning football managers with Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson coming in first with a reputed £32m (€39.3m).
