Reilly strike seals deal for Breffni
Eirgrid Ulster u-20 FC quarter-final: Cavan 1-13 Monaghan 2-4
Long-time leaders Cavan had too much firepower for a fitful Monaghan side in an absorbing clash at Kingspan Breffni.
Monaghan's failure to score for the last 24 minutes of the game proved fatal, but it wasn't until Tiarnan Reilly pounced for a goal on the hour mark that Cavan could breathe easily.
Cavan were at their best in the second quarter with some fine counter-attacking. Between the 16th and 31st minutes they notched six unanswered points - including two from top scorer Patrick Lynch.
However, Monaghan hit a goal through Sean Jones to leave it at 0-8 to 1-4 at the interval.
Monaghan stayed on the front foot on the restart and a goal by Aaron Mohan had them 2-4 to 0-9 in front by the 40th minute. Amazingly, that was the end of their scoring and once Lynch's free (49) eased Cavan 0-11 to 2-4 in front, they were able to pull away.
