Waterford's Shane Bennett hits 3-7 as LIT demolish Trinity on their return to the Fitzgibbon Cup
Limerick IT 4-21 Trinity College 0-7
WATERFORD’S Shane Bennett was the star turn as Limerick IT got their Independent.ie Fitzgibbon Cup Group C campaign off to a winning start.
The hosts ran out massive 26-point winners against Trinity College as Bennett helped himself to 3-7 – including an 11-minute hat-trick of goals.
LIT, managed by Wexford boss Davy Fitzgerald, had the job done by half-time, leading by 4-8 to 0-4.
Bennett’s quick-fire blast, the second goal from a penalty, was good enough as Trinity leaked four goals in that 11-minute spell, David Dempsey also finding the net.
Beaten semi-finalists last year, LIT will take some stopping as they boast a well-balanced team with Clare’s Oisín O’Brien to come back into the mix.
Trinity had a six-point haul from Cian O’Sullivan but managed just a single point from play in the contest, Niall Redmond with a second-half effort.
