New Mary Immaculate College manager Jamie Wall said there is room for improvement despite his side’s 21-point Fitzgibbon Cup hammering of GMIT at Mary Immaculate College.
The reigning champions led 1-16 to 0-8 at the interval and goals from Cian Lynch and Thomas Grimes made the result comfortable.
Eamonn Cregan led them to their 2016 triumph but Wall took over and this was the perfect start to Group A, but he wants more.
“We are setting our standards and regardless who we play, we felt we didn’t reach some of our own targets,” said Wall.
The Limerick college had a star-studded line-up with names like Ronan Maher, Colm Galvin and Richie English all remaining from last year – they led by 11 points at half-time.
Limerick forward Lynch scored the first-half goal in the 28th minute. And Grimes’ strike sealed it, with ten minutes remaining.
“I’m proud that the guys battled until the end, but it was disappointing,” said GMIT manager Michael Ryan.
