Maynooth University, managed by former Kildare star Johnny Doyle, were pipped in a Sigerson Cup thriller after extra-time in UL.

The hero for UL was former All-Ireland minor winner Jack Goulding from Kerry who landed the winner in the second period of extra-time. UL finished with 14 men after Ian Burke was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on Aiden Brennan.

Two goals from Joey Wallace and one from Ryan O’Rourke saw Maynooth lead by nine early in the second half but UL hauled them back with goals from Gearoid Hegarty and Kerry’s Michael Geaney in the dying moments.

Restarting tied at 4-10 to 2-16, Maynooth again pulled away but Shane Ryan palmed to the net for UL while points from Ryan, Niall McDermott and Goulding’s winner sealed their passage.
