Independent.ie Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final lineup decided as Cork IT and Waterford IT bow out
The final group games of the 2017 Independent.ie Fitzgibbon Cup are taking place today and the quarter-final line-up is becoming clear.
DJ Carey's IT Carlow side are through to the last eight after a facile 6-20 to 0-11 victory over GMIT at Caranmore but will be on the road for their next game.
The Kilkenny legend will have to plot the downfall of UL, who can call on the likes of inter-county stars John McGrath, Stephen Bennett and Tony Kelly, after they easily accounted for DCU-St Patrick’s Campus to top Group B
Reigning champions Mary Immaculate College Limerick topped Group A courtesy of a huge 5-28 to 1-8 success over DIT
There was drama in tonight's Group B clash between Cork IT and NUIG with the Westerners advancing on points difference after the game finished in a draw.
NUIG were never in front in the game but will play Mary I next week.
UCC have topped Group D after an eight-point win over Maynooth University and are joined in the last eight by UCD who easily accounted for Ulster University.
UCC will play Fitzgibbon surprise packages DCU who got the better of Trinity in their Dublin derby.
WIT are the side to miss out on the last eight after Davy Fitzgerald's LIT beat them by seven points tonight.
