O'Connor fires Model through
Wexford 2-24 Offaly2-13
Rory O'Connor proved the star turn for Wexford on Saturday as they came away from Tullamore with an 11-point victory over Offaly and with their Leinster Minor hurling final ticket secured.
O'Connor was in a league of his own as he fired 2-10, 2-5 of which came from play, as Wexford pulled away in the final 10 minutes.
Wexford led by seven points at the break but a spirited Offaly comeback, helped in no small part by goals from Eoin Woods and Aaron Kenny, brought the home side back to within two points with 13 minutes to go.
Two minutes later, Rory O'Connor, son of Wexford great John O'Connor, grabbed his second goal as Wexford pushed on and put their hosts to the sword. The production line in Wexford has a familiar feel to it with Barry O'Connor, son of George O'Connor, and Conal Flood, son of Sean Flood, also to the fore.
It was Rory O'Connor's goal in the fourth minute of the game that set out the Wexford stall as they 1-2 to 0-0. Offaly were staying in touch but with O'Connor flying, the Models led 1-11 to 0-7 at the break.
Offaly resurrected their chances but in the final 11 minutes of the game, Wexford hit 1-10 and made a statement ahead of the final against Dublin after the men from the capital edged out Kilkenny.
