Lambert points way for Westport
Rice College Westport 0-13 Naas CBS 1-7
Rice College advanced to the final of the All-Ireland Schools SFC with a deserved victory over Naas CBS in Ballinasloe yesterday.
The Westport team, who won the Connacht title for the first time a fortnight ago, came back from a three-point deficit at the interval to overpower the Leinster champions in the second half.
After starting brightly and scoring three unanswered points in the opening five minutes, Naas got the only goal of the match in the 29th minute courtesy of a brilliant effort from Tony O'Connor. But that was as good as it got for them.
Rice College certainly upped the ante on the resumption, taking total control in most areas of the pitch. By the 46th minute they had turned a three-point deficit into a four-point lead after scoring seven unanswered points, wth five of those points came from captain Pat Lambert.
'Rice' will now meet PS Chorca Dhuibhne or St Paul's Lurgan in the Hogan Cup final on April 7.
