Fitzpatrick hits last-gasp winner
Roscommon CBS 1-12 Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra Rathmore 1-11
Roscommon CBS dug deep to enjoy success in the All-Ireland PP Schools SFC 'B' final thanks to a James Fitzpatrick point in the seventh minute of additional time at Croke Park on Saturday.
The winner came after a topsy-turvy encounter with Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra where the Kerry school led by 0-6 to 0-3 at half-time before a second-half surge, aided by the breeze, helped Roscommon to a 1-10 to 0-7 lead after 44 minutes. Rathmore would draw level before Fitzpatrick's late winner.
Rathmore were driven on by James Darmody, Alan Dineen and Owen Fitzgerald in the first period but a Cian Murray goal in the 41st minute helped Roscommon complete a 10-point turnaround.
Centre-back Jack Lohan's injury necessitated a long delay and when play resumed Rathmore got a lifeline from Aaron Cronin's goal in the 54th minute made it 1-10 to 1-8.
