Wonder score by Walsh sets up Kanturk's title triumph
Kanturk 1-23 Kilmaley 0-25 (after extra-time)
Cork's Kanturk are AIB Munster Club Intermediate Hurling champions following an enthralling battle with Clare's Kilmaley at the Gaelic Grounds yesterday.
Extra-time was needed to decide this final and it was the Cork outfit that had just enough left in the tank.
Kanturk looked in firm control when Liam O'Keeffe's goal on 42 minutes put them six points up.
However, Kilmaley fought back and looked to have snatched victory through Kenneth Kennedy with 62 minutes on the clock, before Kanturk corner-back Paul Walsh popped up with a wonder score to force the two additional 10-minute periods.
Cian Moloney had a free in added time of extra-time to bring the game to a replay, but his effort from 70 metres sailed just wide of Anthony Nash's goal.
The game began at a ferocious speed with plenty of action. Kilmaley led 0-4 to 0-3 after 18 minutes, but five points on the trot from Kanturk put them in the driving seat.
Kilmaley dug deep and cut the deficit to three points as Kanturk led 0-10 to 0-7 at the break.
Kilmaley, led by the mightily impressive Martin O'Malley at midfield, managed to get ahead, but ultimately didn't have enough in the tank to stop Kanturk in extra-time.
