The final whistle had barely blown on July 26, 2009 in Thurles when our attention immediately turned to the monstrous task ahead – stopping the Kilkenny juggernaut which was laying waste to all of the hurling world.

We had just won our All-Ireland quarter-final by the narrowest of margins against a Galway team being talked up as potential challengers to the Cats, but we knew that we would be staring down the barrel of a gun just a fortnight later.
