JJ Doyle has managed to patch together a Wexford team for tomorrow night's Leinster intermediate hurling championship final against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park - but only after an SOS went from the county board.

Wexford county board officials were forced to intervene last week when Doyle informed them that he didn't have enough bodies - but clubs have answered the call and supplied players.

An email circulated to clubs from the county board last week confirmed that Doyle, who's also a key member of Davy Fitzgerald's backroom staff, was "not in a position to field a team" for the intermediate clash with the Cats.

The email stated: "This year, Wexford can only play players from intermediate (club) teams down.

"Despite the best efforts of the appointed manager JJ Doyle, he is not at present in a position to field a team.

"He has contacted a vast number of players and not been successful.

"This is due to players gone travelling, refusals, withdrawals and unavailable for personal reasons.

"With this in mind, we are contacting clubs to establish if there are players who would be interested in playing on Wednesday next."

The email was dated last Thursday and sought expressions of interest by 4pm on Friday evening. And Doyle confirmed last night that Wexford will fulfil the fixture at Nowlan Park.

Wexford, runners-up for the last two seasons, are hoping to topple holders Kilkenny and win the competition for the first time in three years.
