Turnbull shines as Cork brush aside Déise
Cork 1-24 Waterford 0-8
Cork's minor hurlers eased past Waterford by 19 points as Denis Ring's promising youngsters delivered a flawless performance in the Páirc Uí Rinn sunshine.
Brian Turnbull was the star with ten points (seven from play), while Brian Roche belted home the clinching goal early in the second half. A below-par Waterford only notched a single point from play courtesy of Tom Looby.
Against the breeze, Cork boasted a seven-point half-time advantage (0-11 to 0-4). Turnbull clipped five with Craig Hanafin and Liam O'Shea striking two apiece. Waterford's Eoghan Browne also pulled off two fine saves. The visitors went 14 minutes without a score but Billy Power sent over three frees. The sides then swapped points on the resumption before Roche's goal left it 1-12 to 0-5.
