'Sweet' success ends year of hurt for Setanta
Donegal SHC final: Setanta 3-13 St Eunan's 0-13
A year of hurt drove Setanta to the Donegal SHC crown.
Goals and experience proved the big difference as Setanta saw off a brave challenge by St Eunan's to win their 16th crown.
"This is as sweet as any win we ever had," said manager Paul Campbell after Mark Devine's double and another goal by Declan Coulter sealed a memorable win.
"We spent a long year in the Cross without that Cup. We think every year that the Cup should be in the Cross, but we have it back for another year now."
In added time at the end of the opening half - with Setanta in front by the minimum, 0-10 to 0-9 - Setanta were given a massive lift with the opening goal.
Bernard Lafferty's long ball into the mix wasn't held by St Eunan's goalkeeper Ryan Hennessy and Devine finished. Setanta took a big step to victory when Coulter's shot crept inside the post - and out through the net. Some thought the ball had gone wide, but replays showed the umpire made the correct call. Setanta took a real charge of things when Devine batted in his second goal after Davin Flynn's approach work along the end-line created the chance. Man of the Match Danny Cullen said: "The boys have really drove it on and got the rewards. It means everything."
