SHEER persistence eventually paid off for St Peter's College as they eventually secured a rather flattering nine-point victory over a resilient Borris VC side in this Leinster senior hurling 'A' semi-final at O'Kennedy Park, New Ross, on Saturday afternoon.
Borris were hanging in until the closing minutes but a moment in the 58th minute saw their challenge evaporate when Joe O'Connor crashed a low ball to the net, a score that secured St Peter's first final appearance in this grade since 2004.
St Peter's may have been favourites going into this game but they were matched by a well-drilled Borris side through the opening 30 minutes, and with centre-forward Kevin McDonald impressing they led 0-3 to 0-1 after nine minutes, with Ronan White grabbing St Peter's solitary response.
St Peter's gained an advantage they were never to lose with a strong response which yielded 1-3 without reply. Matthew Joyce (free), John Lee Meyler and Conor Hearne picked off points before their vital first goal arrived in the 16th minute after a neat attacking move.
