Some of Davy Fitz's antics aren't great - former Clare star Brian Lohan
Former Clare star Brian Lohan has questioned whether the incident that saw his former team-mate Davy Fitzgerald sent to the stands during Wexford's Leinster SHC draw with Galway was borne out of "genuine passion".
The banishing of Fitzgerald to the stands was followed by a Wexford resurgence but Lohan doesn't believe Fitzgerald's confrontation with referee Johnny Murphy and his linesman was necessary.
"I don't know if it's genuine passion," Lohan said.
"We're all passionate about the game. But we don't... we show it in different ways. So, eh, you know, he has the way he does things and people have to kind of fit into that.
"But I think some of the antics, they're not great."
Lohan and Fitzgerald won a pair of All-Irelands together in 1995 and '97 but have had a strained relationship for the past number of years.
In his book, Fitzgerald wrote of a row they had when they were in charge of UL and LIT respectively in 2014, while he also took exception to Lohan's call for an independent review after Clare lost to Cork to end their interest in the 2015 championship.
Fitzgerald was Banner manager at the time and his father Pat was county secretary
"He... essentially, sought to have the county board excluded from the process, as it was 'not independent enough'," Fitzgerald wrote.
"This I took as an obvious dig at my dad."
