Sligo, last year's beaten finalists, made a winning start to this year's Division 3B, thanks to a nine-point defeat of 2018 winners Lancashire in Markievicz Park on Saturday afternoon.

Keith Raymond and Gerard O'Kelly-Lynch netted in the opening half, as the Yeats County men ran up a 2-12 to 1-7 interval lead with the wind at their backs.

And a third Sligo goal, finished smartly by centre-back Rory McHugh midway through the second half, propelled the home side to a deserved win.

Minus their most prolific scorer in Cork native Ronan Crowley, Lancashire instead relied largely on the accuracy from placed balls of Caimin Quigley, whose 24th-minute free deceived the Sligo defence and nestled in the corner of the net. Conor Duggan and Edmond Kenny chipped in with points from play also, while sub Danny Connolly was lively following his introduction.

But Sligo were a constant threat, with Raymond and O'Kelly-Lynch finishing confidently when given opportunities on goal as they ran out nine-point victors.
