Down's forwards took their chances well to earn a derby win over Armagh at a rain-soaked McKenna Park in Division 2B yesterday.

Armagh led 0-3 to 0-2 after five minutes before Danny Toner rattled the back of Simon Doherty's net. Ten minutes later Paul Sheehan's shot fell short but squirted off the surface and into the net.

Down were in the ascendancy 2-5 to 0-4 and would stretch the lead to 11 points at half-time.

Two early frees from Conor McAnallen hinted at a comeback, but in the 41st minute a long ball was fielded by Eoghan Sands on the edge of the square and he twisted past his marker before firing in Down's third goal.

Try as they might, Armagh couldn't get back into the game.

Down lost full-back Caolan Teggart to a red card after 61 minutes, but finished strongly with points from two Sheehan frees and a nice effort from Daithí Sands.
