Roche goal wins it for Colman's
St Colman's Fermoy 1-8 Midleton CBS 0-7
A 37th-minute goal from Bride Rovers' Brian Roche sent St Colman's College Fermoy into their first Harty Cup final since 2003, after they defeated Midleton CBS by four points in Mallow on Saturday.
A huge crowd of 2,691 turned out but were rewarded with a poor first half which ended 0-3 apiece, with Liam O'Shea and Diarmuid Lenihan top-scoring for their respective teams.
The second half was far better as O'Shea and Liam Gosnell were both lively for Midleton, but their side's 14 wides proved costly during the course of the 60 minutes.
Colman's started the second half very well with Barry Murphy and Barry Lardner both scoring points as Roche's goal following a mistake by the goalkeeper extended the lead to four points on 37 minutes.
Colman's were finding scoring easier in general and poor marksmanship was proving damaging to Midleton's chances of making the final, while heroic Colman's defending also kept them at bay with Niall O'Leary, in particular, pulling off a point-blank block to deny Ger Millerick at the end as Richard Galvin's point put matters beyond doubt on 63 minutes.
