Jack Regan played a captain's role, hitting 15 points, as Meath avenged last year's final defeat in this All-Ireland U-21 'B' hurling quarter-final at Trim.

Wicklow started with five of that successful team and were in contention throughout the opening half until a late Meath surge resulted in five unanswered points, leaving the hosts leading 0-11 to 0-6 at the break.

Regan accounted for eight first-half points while Wicklow's marksman Enda Donohoe, who ended with a tally of 10 points, accounted for five of his side's scores in the half.

Meath tallied eight wides to Wicklow's two in that period and were denied a goal when goalkeeper Robert Fitzgerald turned an effort from Ross Ryan over the crossbar.

Six points separated the sides when Wicklow wing-back Daire Henderson was dismissed for a second yellow card on 42 minutes. But the Garden County rallied and were just four points in arrears with 10 minutes remaining.

However, the challenge fizzled out after that and Meath closed out the game in style, scoring 1-6 without reply, the goal coming from substitute Conor Kearney, to set up a semi-final clash with Kerry.
