Fleet-footed attacker John Walsh scored 2-6 as he led Kilkenny into the Bord na Mona Walsh Cup semi-final in Freshford yesterday.

Walsh cut loose in the second half, scoring two fine goals, as the Cats booked a semi-final meeting with Offaly next weekend.

Kildare were slow to start and they conceded six points before wing-back Eanna O'Neill opened their account with an 11th-minute point.

They fared better after that, and after missing a few chances from frees, they were still in the hunt when 0-9 to 0-5 behind at the break.

However, the home side opened the new half with a 37th-minute goal from sub Bill Sheehan, a gift after the visiting keeper failed to scoop the ball away when it fell near the edge of the square.

When Walsh took a pass from the unselfish Billy Ryan to crack home the Cats' second goal on 47 minutes the gap went up to 2-13 to 0-5 and it was all over.
