CORK gave a master class of efficient, structured and at times devastating hurling to comprehensively defeat Dublin in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1A clash at Croke Park.
Following wins over Tipperary and Kilkenny, the Dubs were expected - and no doubt expected of themselves - to really give Cork a battle.
It never happened. Cork, despite losing full back Christopher Joyce to injury after six minutes, dominated Dublin from start to finish.
Joyce's replacement Stephen McDonnell slotted in smoothly to a defence that yielded only one goal chance in the first half to Dublin, and that shot by Shane Durkin was saved by Cork goalkeeper Anthony Nash.
Free taker Patrick Horgan punished every discretion by the Dubs, and by half-time had amassed 0-9, seven from frees, of Cork's 0-21.
Full forward Luke O'Farrell struck over four fine points from play and Rob O'Shea had three for the Rebels as Dublin floundered in every department.
Dublin had a paltry 0-8 at the interval. Hopes of a revival were soon dashed, with Cork getting quickly back in their stride to continue the harsh dose of reality for Ger Cunningham's team.
A late, late goal by Liam Rushe raised a roar from the Dublin crowd who were gathering in increasing numbers for the football game, but it was too little, and way too late to save their pride.
