A prosperous opening half laid the foundations for Roscommon to record a comfortable victory against Monaghan at Athleague.

Justin Campbell's charges led by 0-16 to 0-7 at the break. When Cillian Egan goaled four minutes into the second half to stretch the home side's lead to 13 points, their place in the semi-finals was all but assured.

Monaghan couldn't live with Roscommon's intensity in the opening 35 minutes.

John Moran, Egan and Gerry Fallon were in top form, firing over points from a variety of angles. Roscommon registered 14 points from play during their purple patch, while Fallon and Micheál Kelly (a '65) landed placed balls to hand their side a nine-point interval lead.

When Egan raised the game's only green flag in the 39th minute after he took advantage of Adrian Murphy's delivery, Roscommon had disappeared over the horizon.
