Rampant Mary Immaculate prove too hot for Waterford IT
Mary Immaculate2-19 Waterford IT 0-10: Fitzgibbon Cup
A splendid start paved the way for Mary I's winning start in Group D in a game that was virtually over by half-time.
By that stage the Limerick side led by 1-12 to 0-4 after being 0-5 clear without a Waterford score. The visitors managed only a single point from play in the first half, by Johnny Hayes after 23 minutes.
David Reidy top-scored for Mary I with 0-8 (5f, 1 '65), while Declan Hannon did well at centre-forward. Darragh Corry's goal came after 14 minutes to make it 1-9 to 0-1 and when a shot by Corry was blocked after 50 minutes, the ball broke to Darragh O'Donovan who blasted home.
Pauric Mahony scored 0-7 for Waterford, five of them from frees, but his team mates had too many wides to shake a solid Mary I defence in which Colm Barry was outstanding.
