Prendergast stars as Ardmore progress
AIB All-Ireland Club JH S/f: Ardmore 4-12 Setanta 0-13
Former Waterford inter-county star Seamus Prendergast was in sparkling form as Ardmore reached the AIB hurling All-Ireland junior club final at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday.
Full forward Prendergast accounted for 1-6 and it was his goal in first half injury time from a Niall Hennessy pass which left the Munster champions firmly in the driving seat and leading 2-8 to 0-5 at the interval.
The Donegal champions were attempting a historic breakthrough that dream seemed well within their grasp in the opening quarter.
Boosted by two points from former Armagh star Declan Coulter, Setanta led 0-4 to 0-2 in what proved a cracking encounter. However Ardmore never looked back following a brilliant individual goal from James Flavin on 18 minutes and despite hitting 12 first half wides they pressed home their superiority from there to the break.
Prendergast converted three points against the breeze in the third quarter as Setanta failed to make inroads on the Ardmore lead.
Any prospects of a closely contested finish disappeared when David Garland hit a low effort to the net to leave it 3-12 to 0-10 on 53 minutes.
Flavin then put the seal on a fine Ardmore display with his second goal near the finish and to make matters worse for Setanta they finished with 14 after keeper Ciarán Bellew was red carded before the end.
